Tonight, I shaved the left side of my head after letting it grow for longer than a month (it gets tiring having to do it every two weeks and I have been busy!). Afterwards, I jumped into the shower and immediately, my nose started bleeding. Instead of trying to stop it, I just stood there for a while and allowed my body to naturally purge it. When I looked down, I saw patches of raw skin flaring red, wounds that never really healed, on my stomach and my breasts. Mostly from agitation and binding with masking tape. But I also saw I saw thin threads of my blood swirling down the drain, with long strands and short shards of dark hair chasing after it. I felt suddenly at ease. Reassured by seeing the filth of today wash off of me, so that I could wake up new.

Today, we had a workshop in class where we brought in images that we’ve been composting throughout the semester. Out of the 100 images I brought, this is the one that spoke loudest to me. Its quite ironic, I thought I was through with my “divided” art work already! My art has shifted so much since last semester, but it’s insane how I’m still incorporating similar ideas and themes now.
The drawing (right) was immediately inspired by the image (left).

I really enjoyed my figure drawing class today. We had an awesome model and she had a piece of cloth which she used to create some beautiful tugging and pulling shapes. I rarely ever draw or paint fabric, so this was really refreshing and exciting for me.
